She questions in particular in the use of material, static as well as singular perspectives of perception, socio-cultural narratives, the role of the (painting) object in space as well as a corporeality from a feminist point of view. Through the absence of chromatics as well as the reduction of compositional elements, Emslanders works offer a counter-position to information excess and content overload.  At night Julia tours with the techno-punk band Frauenstrasse through clubs, concert venues and off spaces and shouts to hard beats and playful synths in the face of the audience.
